Why Relief Through Rolling?

Foam Rolling is quickly becoming one of the most profound and effective tools on the market to address and manage pain.  If you do a simple web search you will find hundreds of results of different ways to work with a foam roller.  There is one thing most of these programs have in common though.  They all involve techniques that are painful to do with the “No Pain, No Gain” philosophy.  There are a few problems with this philosophy.  Pain is a signal in our body that something is wrong.  The natural instinct is to contract and protect against what is causing the pain.  Working with a foam roller should be lengthening and loosening tightness in the body not causing contraction.  There is no way to produce the desired result of length when you are contracting.  Most importantly, when something is painful most people won’t continue to do it.  Then they are definitely not getting the results of length and relaxation in their body.

Verity Battista is a Licensed Massage Practitioner and Yoga Instructor.  She has been sharing Foam Rolling techniques with her clients for many years.  After learning the Relief Through Rolling techniques she was excited about the information she and how it could help her clients.  She shares her experience with us in this video.

Why Does a Practitioner Need These Techniques?female has backache

If your practice is anything like ours, every day you see people who are suffering from pain that just won’t go away.  Even after providing amazing treatments there are still times that they are experiencing pain.  Our clients began to ask us if there was anything we could recommend for them to do at home to help with aches and pains between their sessions.  We created Relief Through Rolling specifically for our clients.  For 10 years we have been sharing these techniques with them and watched as they were feeling better every week and the results of their sessions seemed to last longer and longer.  It was such a great feeling to watch people feel better that we knew every practitioner needed to have this information.  If you are a practitioner who wants their clients to feel better outside the office, this system is a perfect compliment to the work you are already providing.

This is a really great question.  In today’s world, it is almost impossible to find continuing education classes and techniques that are not specialized to one particular profession.  We have partnered with professionals in many different areas to see if these techniques would compliment what they are doing.  We found that everyone we partnered with had amazing results.  As a result of all this collaboration, our program is used by every athlete at Gonzaga University (a NCAA Division I University), we will be presenting these techniques at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Pilates Method Alliance, and even one of the Board of Governors of the American Chiropractic Association teaches Relief Through Rolling classes in her office once a week.  If these guys can implement the techniques, so can you.
